“Christ operated within the thrust of a limitless potential from a realm of unbridled vastness that he drank from like water out of a fountain. He performed extraordinary feats, miracles, and healings, the likes of which have been rarely seen on the human plane.”
Greater Things, Tom Steward
“All of our spiritual powers or abilities are inherent. Arising from the Source, we come fully loaded with every ability… Although our spiritual abilities are natural to us, they exist in potential until they are recognized, activated, and developed.”

Other Scriptures
I spent the first few decades of my life as a member of the Christian community. I’ve had a lot of reverence for Christ and the holy scriptures. I took seriously when Jesus said in the gospel of John, that we could do everything he did and even “greater things.” I was so moved by this statement that I wrote a book about it by that title.
I have often said that we ought to develop a check list that includes every miraculous act presented by Jesus in the gospels. You could then proceed through the written record of the accounts of his amazing feats and check off all the ones you have represented. Once you get to the end of the list you could begin to perform those actions that are greater than his. Isn’t that what he meant?
I now know something different about Christ from alternative documents about his life.[1] What is seen in these obscure writings is a representation of Christ that is different from what has been known. You may want to consider these other documents. Additionally, you may want to look at canonized scripture with new eyes.
Raising the Dead
For example, Christ reportedly raised the dead. The one most notable was his friend Lazarus.[2] This is a strange story if you look at it closely. Lazarus and his sisters, Mary and Martha, were close friends with Jesus and reportedly spent a lot of time with him. On the occasion of Lazarus’s passing, it has been surmised that Jesus was a day’s journey away, approximately 15-20 miles. He was likely in Perea, "beyond the Jordan," after he heard that his good friend had died.
Both sisters, one by one and at different times, went out to Christ in deep sorrow requesting help, yet he did not go to where the dead body of Lazarus was. The sisters knew he could bring their brother back, and Jesus knew it too, but he did nothing. When he finally did show up, he grieved deeply from within himself with great tears of despondency. But why?
Some have said that he grieved because his friend had died. Others have said, and I used to believe this, that he was waiting for the best moment so that the greatest glory and impact could be made. That’s just arrogant, and I don’t believe that the Christ I have come to know would do that.
Why did he wait, some distance away from the tomb of his friend, then suddenly waltz in to get the job done and give everyone what they expected? I have often been perplexed by this.
Then something happened to me. I had an experience with a dead body. My middle son, Ryan Bradlee, left the Earth on December 15, 2012. I found his lifeless body on his bed when I went to his house to visit him. I wrote a book about him that includes the account of how I attempted to call him back, to “raise him from the dead.”[3] At the time I believed if Jesus could raise Lazarus, I could raise my son. Sounds reasonable. That feat was on the list I developed.
After some time, about fifteen hours (all the while calling the OMI doctor who unwisely gave me her cell phone number), I realized my son wasn’t coming back. I had to accept the fact that he was supposed to go and what I wanted couldn’t change that.
My wife thought I was being selfish and presumptuous about this misdirected desire to bring Ryan back, and she was right. What I have since found is that what is oft referred to as strong faith may be none other than delusional arrogance.
And this question begs an answer, if someone crosses over and sees all that the world beyond the veil has to offer, why would they come back? I have no idea, but I am convinced that this is one of the reasons Ryan didn’t want to return. Also, he was done here and wanted nothing more of this tumultuous and turbulent life.
Essene Practices
I have found accounts of what Christ’s life was really about that are different from what is written in the New Testament scriptures. For example, the raising of the dead in that 1st Century context did not occur in the way we have presumed. The community that Jesus came from, the Essenes, had a far different view of death.
Much like indigenous native cultures from the tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of years of pre-modern history, their perspective about death was very different from ours. Death was simply passing through a veil, like moving from one room to another. It was a timely and purposeful transition that was to be celebrated, not mourned. Why would you grieve for someone who has come to a wonderful and eventful climax of their earthly existence and have passed through the veil to experience the after-life’s tremendous grandeur?
Even more, there was no thought or practice of raising the dead in the way we have conceived. Rather you honor a person for what was achieved in their lifetime, knowing that they will be “born again,” to use Christ’s words that are too often misappropriated. We cycle through an unknown number of lifetimes so the end of one life is not as tragic as we now believe. Death is despairing if you conclude there is only one life, and in that one life you didn’t measure up to the binding and dogmatic religious mandates of the ruling elite.
Okay, back to the story of Lazarus. Why did Christ wait and what was the purpose of bringing Lazarus back from the dead? Even more, why did he weep so profoundly at the sight when he arrived? What was so disturbing about the death of his friend if he was going to bring Lazarus out of the tomb in a short time anyway?
I don’t think he waited so he could draw a bigger crowd to get more attention. I don’t think he was crying bitter tears for Lazarus because he was so sad that this dear friend had died.
It is possible that the pervasive grief that rocked him to his core was about the low vibrational atmosphere of an illusory world that he found challenging to enter. He had sorrow for the state of humanity that was pervasive around him because so many were not living in the light of Eternity and were lost and aimless, without meaning and purpose and hope.
He knew that humans were burdened by the lack of fullness and fulfillment inherent within ordinary consciousness. He saw those around him as trapped, lacking the release that could be so easily attained. He was aware of the self-created cell most people lived in, like a cage with an open door yet not escaping to the freedom before them. It must have pained him to see humans overly preoccupied with the world around them as if it was the only reality and not apprehending the deep inner life of the heart. He knew that those around him were living a life of delusion without even knowing it. He was despondent because not many were awakened from the slumber of unreality and were trapped in smallness.
Christ achieved the status of an evolved ascended one living in abundance, poignantly aware that he was a divine being living out a temporary mortal existence. He wasn’t just bringing Lazarus back, he was altering the consciousness of humanity, outward and within. This is something he did on that day and every day he walked the Earth.
Gathering Spirit
It is certainly possible that Christ waited to gather his energies for the task at hand that he knew would require so much from him. This is now known as meditation or getting into a certain zone or sweet spot of a high vibrational frequency and advanced consciousness so he could perform miracles.
Christ wept deeply, for those who were there at the time, and he cried bitter tears for you and me, because we live in a dreamworld of unreality. He raised Lazarus as an example of how we, you and I, can represent great powers and live an extraordinary life.
He may have even read from the Tao Te Ching, which was written before he came to Earth, and contained these lines:
“Gather spirit. Gather spirit early, and so redouble power,
and so become vulnerable.”[4]
Christ may have been simply gathering his spirit as he waited. He did this to enhance his energetic signature and redouble his power in preparation for what he was going to do. He became vulnerable, opening his heart to join with the beleaguered and burdened hearts of those present that day, as his love and compassion began to spill from his heart center. He then entered a dimensionless void to draw from Source Consciousness in a way that brought Heaven to Earth, so that the Kingdom of God would come, and Divine Will would be known.
The Greatest Powers Ever Known
So, we have misunderstood the raising of the dead. What else did we get wrong? If Jesus was an integral member of the Essene community, what did this group of people, and other spirit seeking groups at that time, really do that reflected greater powers.
Some or many of these abilities are not recorded in the gospels and are lost to history. They are aptitudes that are not in the conscious awareness of the modern-day followers of Christianity. Religion has a way of disregarding the practices that would make its members powerful, personally and collectively, in favor of a theology of fear and shame and limitation and control.
There are those in our time who are exhibiting powerful acts, yet they are typically not a part of any religious enterprise or faith group. It seems you need to remove yourself from churchianity’s restraining dogma to be powerful. Religion in a building too often stifles creativity and power and spirituality in the trenches of life facilitates a life of expansion.
The list I made from the current version of scripture that I mentioned earlier in this chapter, has been extended by another listing. The new grouping of phenomenal achievements, found in other documents about the life of Christ, includes the following (Yes, the real Jesus did these things):
1. Healing, using objects, such as clay, crystals, herbs, ointments, plants, and the transfer of energy from one body to another through physical touch.
2. The reading of crystals for the knowledge they contain, placed there by light beings who are invested in helping us to wake up and increase our understanding. This knowledge was later transferred to scrolls and held within a vast library system throughout the known world at that time.
3. Using sound and vibration to re-attune each person to their essential note that they were given at birth. If illness is an energetic discord representing a lower vibrational frequency, healing included aiding the person to resonate with their personal note to raise their frequency pattern back to its place of origin.
4. Reading Star Charts to determine the times and the seasons regarding where humans are at any point of their existence, or any one person’s purpose and destiny. Star charts were first read at or prior to birth to discern the new child’s life path.
5. Dreams—this includes discerning the messages in dreams and entering the dreams of others and/or creating dreams for another to communicate a message or assist them in some way.
6. Thought broadcasting as a means of communication, even from long distances, without the use of verbal spoken words.
7. Spirit Travel, which entailed leaving the body to go to another location via spirit.
8. Projecting Consciousness, or time travel, to move to the “past” or the “future” or another location to obtain necessary information.
9. The aptitude of inner vision and inner hearing to read the cosmic records, attuning to higher spirit beings and the vast spiritual world.
10. Speaking in unknown languages, which was a way of accounting for knowledge from a past life personality that is hidden in the cellular memory of a person. The cellular memory is awakened, and knowledge comes forth via the language of the previous life in which it was spoken. The language is likely not understood by anyone hearing it yet is known by the higher self and received subconsciously in the spirit of the person.[5]
I know this list is not complete, there is more, yet it is what I have discovered so far. It does provide an example of skills that are largely unused today, most notably in the gathering places of Christianity. This is a brief introduction to these skills, and I have not offered a detailed description here, perhaps that is for another time.
What needs to be known is that these abilities were not done for sport, entertainment, or amusement, and no one’s ego was enhanced through such a presentation. These actions were routinely and lovingly practiced within these exceptional communities to raise vibration and advance the consciousness of everyone on Earth. These skills were performed in favor of the misguided doctrines of sin and hell and substitutionary atonement that are more prevalent today.
What is becoming clearer is that Christ, being an Essene and a part of this enigmatic community, very likely used many or all these skills. Perhaps this provides a hint to the “greater things” he was talking about. When he uttered those words many around him must have known what he was talking about. Now, we have no grid for that, because these abilities were shut down and disregarded by the ruling hierarchy of imperial Christianity in the third and fourth centuries. This is a sad and frustrating realization indeed.
Transcendental Powers
I have also begun to develop another yet similar list of advanced attributes that ought to be commonplace. They are listed with a definition here.
· Spirit Travel—Some refer to this as astral travel or projection of consciousness. I call it spirit travel because I believe that is what is sent out of the body to travel to some location in the physical world or spiritual world. The best example in scripture is from the book Ezekiel in the Hebrew Bible. Ezekiel traveled outside of his body via his spirit and was shown many important sites. For us, I believe spirit travel most often occurs at night when we are sleeping and perhaps happens every night when our physical body and rational mind is turned off and at rest. The most accurate reports of this experience are those referred to as OBE’s (out-of-body experiences) and NDE’s (near death experiences). What people have reported in response to traveling outside of the body and viewing their physical body is quite astounding. What is traveling is the spirit of the person, and the person is able to remember what has occurred. It is my contention that most of our spirit travel is unknown to the ego’s conscious mind, yet that is alright because our true self and our divine team and the rest of our consciousness, often referred to as the subconscious, is fully aware and so important information is being processed for our evolution.
· Time Travel—This is associated with spirit travel, because when we engage in any version of travel outside of the physical body on Earth or beyond this planet, there is an experience of something beyond the bounds of time. This is aptly referred to as Eternity, and this eclipses the concept of time, which is simply an artifact of perception, although useful for our lives on this planet. The spiritual world and the beings there live and exist in a reality outside of the bounds of time. To them there is only one moment, the present moment of the Eternal Now, so from their perspective there is no past or future. When you time travel you settle into the timelessness of Eternity’s current moment embrace.
· Stopping Time—This may be rare, yet I have heard stories of those who have traveled outside of time to various points in history’s chronological sequence. These masters have been able to go “back” or “forward” in time, and have even stopped time. This does seem implausible, yet if there is only one moment then all time is stopped in the presentness of the now.
· Bilocation—This is simply being in two places at once. What you may not know is that all of your energy, who you are as the spirit of your true self, is not all here. Some of your energy has been left in the spirit realm, in that place referred to as the interlife—the life between lives. Some souls live more than one life at a time, so their soul energy is split between two physical bodies. You may, however, be living out one life in one body and then split into two separate expressions as your energy bilocates. I have no experience of this and have not heard much of these accounts. It may be possible that what is sent to another location is your spirit that somehow becomes embodied in what is experienced as a physical body. The New Testament offers that we entertain angels without knowing it,[6] and these angels may be spirits from the divine realm or other humans bilocating.
· Psychokinesis—This is changing the quality of physical substance and form and moving it somewhere else. There have been reports in history past where some individuals move or change physical objects through the activity of mental concentration. This was popularized in the Spiritualist movement.[7] This may be done purposely, and some have entertained this power. This may also occur unintentionally, or so it seems. I have heard of reports of objects around people’s homes that were moved from one place to another. Whew! Now you know you are not losing your mind when you ask, “how did that get there?”
· Telepathy—Telepathy is the ability to transmit information from one person’s mind to another person’s mind, even when there is no physical connection or proximity. In other words, you do not need to be near someone to send information from your mind to theirs. This is also known as “thought broadcasting” and is a type of ESP—extra sensory perception. This version of mental expression can be helpful in an area known as “distant healing.” I send healing very frequently to friends and clients in other locations, including the African country of Uganda. There are many times when I am with someone and I just know their experience, which could include thoughts and/or emotions. I then say something to this person and the response I often get is, “how did you know that.”
· Remote Viewing— Remote viewing is the practice of using the mind to gain information about a distant or unseen subject. The goal is to provide details about a person, event, location, or object that is not physically visible or is separated by distance. This is something that has captured public attention over the last few decades. It has become more widely known that our government has used remote viewing to spy on other governments, who were likely spying back on us. There are those, like Ed Dames, Ingo Swann, and others, who have brought this into public awareness. Dames was a Major in the U.S. Army who had the psychic ability to obtain information as a gathering tool for psychic spy programs sponsored by the US government. Now, remote viewing is being used for multiple purposes, including some that are quite paranormal. Remote viewings most useful functions are to locate lost objects, like where your car keys are. It has also been used in solving crimes by locating bodies of those who have been murdered. The body, even the bones of the long deceased, carries information that is critical for finding the killer. I believe that this is an ability we all have the aptitude for and that can be developed to see what is occurring in another location. Of course, this needs to be used ethically and prudently without bringing harm.
· Discerning events yet to come—This is often referred to as prophecy and is represented in many passages of scripture, including the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, and the New Testament. I don’t like using the word prophecy because it has been used to usher people into fear and control and is often inaccurate. There are many futures, so if something is predicted for some future time, it could be shifted based on the expression of new energies that surface. In the writings of Paul in the New Testament there is instruction about the gathering of believers. One aspect of the gathering is revelation. What is offered is that if one person has a revelation of prophecy and another person receives an additional revelation, the first person must sit down. Why? Because the revelation that was received even in the last few minutes is now old and outdated. This shows the revolving and evolving nature of discerning events yet to come. So, hold loosely to the revelation you receive, it could be replaced by you or someone else.
· Levitation—This is the ability to enable something, a person or an object, to rise in the air without physical means. This has not been confirmed and has been referred to as the alleged levitation of saints in past times, and the alleged levitation of mediums. Since there is no scientific evidence for levitation it is usually explained as deception and fraud. It does make me wonder when something like this is recreated through trickery and illusion, and it is in our consciousness, did it really occur at one point in human history? Its presence in history past may be associated with the need to travel long distances over challenging terrain without assistance from any form of vehicle. I once heard Mel Tari speak at a conference nearly twenty years ago. Mel is the from Island of Timor in Indonesia and he told the story of routinely walking from one village to another, yet there was a river he needed to cross. He believed God could help him so each time he stood before the river he would simply walk over it. That’s what he said anyway. He continued telling his story by offering that at one point someone asked him if he still walks over the river. He said no, because a bridge was built. Did we lose the ability to levitate along with many other skills that were essential for a time because it became unnecessary? How often have we done this with modern conveniences that are more easily used?
· Psychometry—This is the ability to discover facts and information about something, an event or a person, by touching inanimate objects associated with the event or person. In employing this skill, you would interpret the energy or vibrations discerned from the object to gain insight. The item could be an article of clothing or something the person has used, and information about the person is gleaned from that object.
There is most certainly more that could be added to this list, but what I have provided here is a start. I would like to add what I refer to as “the claires.” They are as follows:
· Clairvoyance— clear seeing; the ability to see into the non-physical realm to see what others are unable to see.
· Clairaudience— clear hearing; the ability to hear into the non-physical realm to hear what others are unable to hear.
· Clairsentience— clear feeling or sensing; the ability to feel or sense what others are unable to feel or sense.
· Claircognizance— clear knowing; the ability to intuitively know in your thoughts and awareness.
· Clairalience— clear smelling; the ability to smell beyond what the physical sense are able to detect.
· Clairgustance— clear taste; the ability to taste without having anything in your mouth.
· Clairtangency— clear touch; the ability to receive information by touch, sometimes referred to as psychometry.
Then there are also empath gifts, ten in all from what I have found. These include:
· Physical Empathy—the ability to discern the physical state of another person or object.
· Emotional Empathy—the ability to discern the emotional state of another person or object.
· Intellectual Empathy—the ability to understand another person’s perspective or mental processing.
· Experiential Empathy—the ability to know the experience of another person to discern what they are going through or experiencing.
· Animal Empathy—the ability to discern the consciousness and experience of an animal to develop a relational connection.
· Plant Empathy— the ability to join in consciousness with plants to discern its needs and conditions.
· Crystal (or rock) Empathy— the ability to join the consciousness of crystals, rocks, and stones, to understand its message and healing power.
· Environmental Empathy— the ability to join in consciousness with the Earth and the environment, discerning its power and purpose, and suffering along with the natural world as it is mistreated.
· Place Empathy— the ability to discern energetic residue and quality of certain physical places.
· Spiritual Empathy— this is an intuitive knowing and awareness that enables the spiritual empath to discern not readily available information about someone or something. This higher knowledge is often, if not always, about deeper truths from the spiritual world or akashic field, received from divine ascended beings and/or the empath’s true self.[8]
Regarding all these gifts and abilities, I simply would like you to know all that exists within human potential, including the latent attributes that lie untapped within us. I also want you to be aware of these practices because you may suddenly develop an aptitude from them, so you may need to know what to call this skill and how to develop it.
We have so much in us that needs to be restored, because there are reported times in history among certain cultures and spiritual groups where these powers were more commonplace. The rationalism of Western culture and religious dogma has squeezed out divine qualities meant for our evolution. We may need to “go back” to “go forward.”
In conclusion, I hope you come to understand how great and powerful you are, and that nothing at all is impossible. Envision this for yourself and then join communities who believe in the greatness of human potential. I hope this discussion has helped to stimulate you and whet your curiosity for more.
